Civil War era ammunition found in files at the US National Archives

Did a fellow researcher really find some Civil War era ammunition that appears to be live and primed?  Yes, it was found this afternoon at 1:35 PM in Room 203 of the US National Archives in Washington, DC.  She immediately showed it to me.


In this very shaky video can be seen what looks like live ammunition in a case-file of RG46, Sen45A-E13, S187.    Below is a gallery of images.

  1. Was someone in security notified of this and did they remove it from the box for disposal?
